Paddington merges with Freddy vs. Jason in bizarre new crossover horror art. Paddington is best known as a beloved British picture book series by Michael Bond but was adapted into a live-action film of the same name in 2014. It was followed up by a sequel in 2017. Paddington in Peru, a third film in the series, is also set for release in the UK later this year. Both Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th are massive horror franchises with multiple movies, including the spinoff Freddy vs. Jason.
Now, new art from @jaythechou shows the lovable Paddington bear in a potentially compromising horror situation. The photoshopped image shows Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger facing each other in a still from the 2003 film Freddy vs. Jason. While flames spark around them, an unusual fellow is seen below them: Paddington, adorned in a referee outfit. The artists captioned the post with "I Photoshop Paddington into a movie, TV show, or pop culture until I forget: Day 1308."
What This Horror Mashup Means For Paddington's Legacy
Paddington Has Been Spoofed Multiple Times
Because the Paddington books have been around for over half a century, the titular bear has been subject to multiple artistic interpretations. The particular one displayed in this crossover art is that of Paul King's Paddington movies. The art strikes an odd and amusing chord because of how lovable and mild-mannered the talking bear character is. These qualities are especially brought out in Ben Whishaw's interpretation of Paddington, which is charming and endearing.

This Paddington and Freddy vs. Jason mashup is not the first time that the modern iteration has worked its way into other contexts. In 2022, a video was made in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's Jubilee Day that featured the CGI bear and the queen. In the short, the pair bonded over their love of marmalade as Paddington got into his typical clumsy antics. The prevalence of these spoofs shows how the titular icon is culturally relevant today, even if preserved in different forms.
The Paddington Series Is Getting The Attention It Deserves
And It's A Good Sign For Paddington In Peru
As a lifelong fan of the marmalade-loving bear, I am glad to see Paddington getting this kind of attention. I'm hoping that art like this leads to greater exposure for Paddington in Peru. The Paddington in Peru trailer already hints at a fantastic new adventure for the bear, but any unusual advertising like this is great for the general awareness of the IP. Paddington 2 dazzled both critics and me, so I can only hope that the third film will bring the same level of joy.
