Lake Wales Florida - Things to Do & Attractions (2025)

Situated near the center of Florida 50 miles south of Orlando, Lake Wales is home to lush, rolling hills, citrus groves, rodeo action, and Bok Tower Gardens, a historic landmark and one of the state’s best-known botanical gardens.

The community’s cowboy history is evident in its parks, attractions, and events. Visitors can see a rodeo every Saturday night at Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo, and Lake Kissimmee State Park’s Cow Camp living history exhibit shows what life was like for cow hunters in the late 1800s. Lake Kissimmee State Park also offers glamping in luxury pioneer tents, 20 miles of hiking trails, trails for horseback riding, canoe and kayak rentals, and a general store. With access to lakes Kissimmee, Tiger, and Rosalie, some of the state’s best freshwater fishing can be found at Lake Kissimmee State Park.

The wonders of Bok Tower Gardens are a must-see, from the famous Olmsted Gardens to the carillon music playing from the historic singing tower. Visitors can stroll the nature trails, explore the Hammock Hollow Children’s Garden, and, after working up an appetite, stop at the park’s Blue Palmetto Café, which serves fresh salads, soups, and sandwiches. More outdoor fun can be found at the 550-acre SUMICA Wildlife Management Area as well as Lake Wales Park. For thrills beyond the rodeo, visitors can check out the legendary site known as Spook Hill, head to the water for an exciting airboat ride, or take to the air on a skydiving adventure.

Visitors will find a selection of unique, low-key restaurants in Lake Wales. Cherry Pocket Steak n Seafood combines good eats and Old Florida fish camp nostalgia with a menu that includes oysters, crab, and alligator, a 1940s-era fish camp, rental cabins, and RV spaces. Other popular eateries in the area include Crazy Fish Bar & Grill, Norbys Steak & Seafood , and Manny’s Original Chophouse.

While in Lake Wales, families with children won’t want to miss a visit to LEGOLAND Florida Resort just north of Lake Wales in Winter Haven.
