Klaus Schulze: Dreams - Reviews (2) Klaus Schulze: Dreams - Reviews (3) »...

Klaus Schulze: Dreams - Reviews (10) Klaus Schulze: Dreams - Reviews (11) »Why is the king of German synth music putting his latest record in a sleeve that makes it looklike a Japanese new age album? [Because it was 100% the record company's job] The Japanesestyle is a minor influence here[none at all], but it's still a Klaus Schulze disc beyond doubt. Theopening track, A Classical Move, is indeed a classical pseudo-orchestra suite with big-orchestracrashes and lush imitation strings and winds. Melodies and themes have been borrowed from theAudentity and Dziekuje Poland albums. The main feature of this track is the syncopated rhythm, whichis also a predominant feature of the whole album. ... Five to Four has a bit of the Japaneseinfluence in it[funny, what a cover can do]. Like the preceding track, this one plays on for a whilewith gentle but catchy rhythms and no drums or drum machine. Then, after 4 minutes or so, adrum machine finally comes in and proves itself unnecessary as expected. But still, it's a pleasingtrack. Dreams is composed of strange, dark synth sounds that are unlike anything Klaus has donebefore, as far as I can recall. It should be heard without preconceptions, so I will give no furtherdescription or opinion.
Klaustrophony is a 25 minute track covering side 2, and it's really a development on Fiveto Four turned into a jam session. ... Until the vocals come in about two thirds of the waythrough, nobody is playing a lead instrument; it's like a huge backing track.
On a whole, although it's not as much of a grabber as some previous Schulze records, this isstill a pretty decent album. I see from the advertisement on the inner liner that all of Klaus'records for IC have been re-issued on Brain Records, and all the old Brain releases are stillavailable...«

Klaus Schulze: Dreams - Reviews (12) Klaus Schulze: Dreams - Reviews (13) » ... I decided to conduct a review of his latest offering, Dreams, by eliciting the views of asmall cross-section of synth fans. The results of this poll are...
Klaus Schulze is:
A) The greatest synth musician, nay the greatest composer ever. He is the nearest thing toMessiah any of us will ever meet, simply because he can do no wrong.
B) A once great musician trying, but mainly failing, to recapture his lost talent.
C) A chain-smoking has-been who should have given up music years ago.
Dreams is:
A) An exceptionally good album from the greatest...etc. (see point A above).
B) A surprisingly good album. In fact the best thing he's done since "X".
C) An object attempt to resuscitate a career that's not worth saving.
...I bought this album. I am:
A) A pimply youth with a low IQ and a deep desire to own a DX7.
B) An anal-retentive audiophile with a record collection large enough to hide even the mostembarrasing purchase.
C) A maniac-depressive hypochondriac who's been feeling very depressed lately...
And so to conclude we must say:
A) Buy it -- it's a must.
B) It is extremely good. ANDREAS and HARALD in particular must be commended. Ian the singermustn't.
C) What do I care? The human race deserves the deepest contempt. No-one deserves to live. Isometimes feel that I am the only one who knows what he's doing. Go on you hamster lovers...(aagh).
P.S. I am B (sometimes). Aren't you?«
